A jug of cold beer with some delicious dishes for all beer lovers

The story of the Pivovarna Union brewery at the edge of Ljubljana’s Tivoli Park is one that has been developing for more than a century and a half, but only in recent years has a pleasant aroma started wafting from the pub.

There, beer lovers can be among the first to try a selection of various Union Selection beers, which are exclusively on offer only at this pub. At any time, however, there are more than ten popular beer varieties on offer at the pub.

Under the creative helm of the Jezeršek Team, the Union Pub treats its guests with excellent beer specialties and innovative culinary creations which go particularly well with some cold beer.

Bread and beer!

The special feature in the pub’s offering are ‘pogače drugače’, a true beer lover’s bread

The special bread is made of barley malt, sourdough, and IPA beer, and is fermented for 24 hours to achieve a rich flavour that goes perfectly with this golden drink. There’s an old saying by a Roman poet that is still used today, but at the Union Pub, it goes a little like this: “Bread and beer!” The selection of bread is adapted to the seasons of the year and seasonal ingredients, and a beer variety is recommended with each type of bread.

At the Pub, they are not shy about their love of frying, and they follow the principle of chef Blaž Demšar from the Bled Castle Restaurant: “Fried food is not food. Fried food is a way of life.” They make everything from crisps to fried cauliflower and much more. You won’t want to miss a true pub burger and other pub specialities. The pub also boasts a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Meet the chef

A lover of the beautiful and the good, who does not want to theorise.

Instead of philosophising, Luka Jezeršek seeks inspiration in the classic recipes of Slovenian cuisine.

Luka Jezeršek thinks that we make a mountain out of a molehill, so he likes to focus on old classics, and he gives a lot of his attention to his guests. He is interested in what the guests want, what they know and what they expect, and then he gives them his full attention.

He says that he was almost born in a kitchen, as his parents began the family business forty years ago, when his father set up his first kitchen in the garage and began by catering private events.
