A powerful gem of a valley that brings together the past and the present

In Spodnja Idrija, where Idrijca and Kanomljica come together, you can enjoy an amazing view. The mighty Kenda mansion, which has been reigning here since 1377, blends the beauty of the 14th century with modernity.

Not only the exterior, but also the interior of this prestigious building will enchant you. Enormous halls, high ceilings, old period furniture and rich embellishments will transport you back to the past. Anyone who adores nature can relax in the most blossoming Slovenian restaurant garden.

The past and modernity are not brought together only in architecture, but in cooking as well. Seasonal dishes according to tested old recipes from the surroundings are prepared in the kitchen. Fresh and local ingredients are not merely part of Idrija cuisine, but are also used to make international dishes.

Idrija cuisine with a touch of sophisticated cuisine

Manual skills and years of experience of chefs are reflected in the menu that changes daily.

We recommend the well-known marinated trout from Kanomljica, žlikrofi with bakalca, lamb with barley or deer with a jam made from dried pears and Merlot. For dessert, treat yourself to homemade apple strudel made with apples picked from the trees in front of the manor.

In addition to culinary excellence, Kendov dvorec also boasts a top wine list. Their dishes are perfectly supplemented particularly by wines of winemakers from Primorska, which elevate the dishes to genuine masterpieces.

Meet the chef

A cook for whom change is the only constant

“All the knowledge we have stems from nature. As nature constantly changes, we must always leave room for improvement.”

Klavdij Pirih has been involved in cooking since he was little. He took his first professional steps in cooking at the family restaurant, where his mother used to cook. He improved his knowledge at the Secondary School of Gastronomy and Tourism in Ljubljana and treats his guests’ taste buds in numerous restaurants around Slovenia.

Klavdij has been working at Kendov dvorec for 18 years.
